Briancon does not shut down after the ski season like most ski villages. There is plenty to do during the summer and the ski shops rent out mountain bikes and wet suits. The lifts run June to September giving easy access to high alpine paths and downhill mountain bike trails (maps in the flat).

The Romans discovered the thermal springs at Monetier les Bains and the spa has been recently rebuilt. There is also an indoor and outdoor 'aqua park' about 5 minutes walk from the flat.

The apartment is next to the Guisane river about 200 meters before it joins the Durance which is a mecca for white water rafting and kayaks. It flows to Lac Embrun where sailing and many other water sports are possible. In June and early July the rivers near Briancon provide some of the best whitewater in Europe. In the pictures below Mark Lyons (who stayed in the apartment in June 2009) shows how to deal with some serious rapids !!

Briancon is adjacent to both the Ecrins National Park and the Queyras Regional Park. Picnics on the Prorel mountain, walks up to the Vauban Forts, sitting quietly by Lac Pont Baldy and wandering around the Unesco World Heritage site of the Briancon 'old town' are all recommended. The Tour de France always passes through Briancon and is a sight worth seeing. The town also has many art and cultural events throughout the summer.
